Founded in 1996 by former Nomura fixed income specialist John C. Howe, Old Hill Partners is an alternative lender taking advantage of two key facets of the current economic environment: the inability of smaller companies to secure proper financing from traditional banking institutions and the inability of investors to generate decent yield from fixed income investments.

Old Hill has successfully participated in the asset-based lending market for over a decade, and sees proprietary deal flow as a result of the firm’s deep experience and relationships. Our size is our advantage, as we are large enough to have the necessary lending infrastructure and operational controls to support asset-based lending, yet small enough to foster an environment that welcomes transactions in the $2-25 million range.

Our underwriting and investment approach allows us to be opportunistic across asset classes. We take advantage of prevailing gaps in the existing market structure, providing financing to sectors that may have fallen out of favor or involve hard-to-value assets requiring more time to understand, while offering asymmetric risk/return characteristics.
Our approach is anchored on the twin goals of income generation and capital preservation. The former is accomplished through careful transaction construction, while the latter is accomplished through a disciplined focus on risk identification and mitigation, which itself starts with prudent origination and extends through collateral analysis, transaction structure, due diligence, monitoring and, when necessary, workout expertise.

John C. Howe
Founder and President
John Howe founded Old Hill in 1996 and has over 25 years of experience investing and managing credit and asset based lending transactions. John is Old Hill′s Chief Executive Officer and responsible for overall portfolio construction. John is the chairman of the Investment Committee. Prior to Old Hill, John was a Managing Director at Nomura Securities in New York from 1990 to 1995, where he oversaw the $40 billion Government Securities Business Unit. Before joining Nomura, John was a Senior Vice President at Kidder Peabody, where he managed and traded fixed-income securities for seven years.
John earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and graduate degree from Columbia University, with a specialization in international business.
John was a captain in the United States Army, serving 10 years in active and reserve units.
Chief Operating Officer
Jeff Haas joined Old Hill in 2011. Jeff has over 20 years of diverse financial experience focused on portfolio management, transaction structuring and Chief Operating Officer duties. At Old Hill, Jeff is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Firm, as well as sourcing and structuring transactions. Jeff is a member of the Firm′s Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Old Hill, Jeff was the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Portfolio Manager of Juniperhill Asset Management and a Portfolio Manager for Centrecourt Asset Management, both small cap-focused lending investment advisory firms. Earlier, Jeff served as a Portfolio Manager and Trader at CIBC World Markets, where he co-managed proprietary trading for less liquid investments and structured lending. He began his career as a certified public accountant.
Jeff earned an MBA in finance and international business from NYU′s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, after receiving an undergraduate accounting degree from Adelphi University.
Shila has over 20 years’ experience in various finance leadership roles. At Old Hill, Shila is responsible for overall Finance and Fund Accounting, as well as being a member of the Firm’s Investment Committee.
Shila served as CFO and in various global leadership positions for businesses within GE Capital. He has extensive experience in scaling up enterprises and has been instrumental in leading the finance function for various global and domestic operations . After GE Capital, Shila served as CFO of an alternative finance provider and was a Senior consultant with companies in the middle market leasing and alternative financing space. Shila started his professional career at KPMG in their Assurance practice.
He is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Delhi University, India.
Peter Faigl joined Old Hill in 2009. Peter has over 15 years of experience analyzing credit based transactions and portfolio management for asset-backed lending investments. Peter is responsible for sourcing transactions, analysis, asset-level modeling, structuring and asset management for the Firm′s asset-backed investments. Prior to Old Hill, Peter was with NewStar Financial, helping the company develop both its structured finance securities and asset-backed investment businesses. Earlier, Peter was responsible for structuring and execution of asset-backed principal transactions at UBS. Peter started his career as an analyst at Banc of America Securities.
Peter is a CFA charter holder and a graduate of James Madison University with majors in quantitative finance and economics.
Charles (″Bill″) W. Cargill
Charles (″Bill″) W. Cargill
Bill Cargill has been with the Firm since 2003. He previously worked at CSG Investments, Inc., an affiliate of a $5.5 billion privately held financial institution. CSG invested over $1.5 billion in high-yield fixed income securities during Mr. Cargill's tenure. Formerly, he served as the Senior Underwriter at ORIX Capital Markets, LLC, and was instrumental in the underwriting of approximately $1 billion in CMBS subordinated bonds covering $20 billion in real estate assets. Earlier in his 15-year career with ORIX, Bill was a Senior Asset Manager in the special servicing unit, concentrating on owned assets. He has extensive loan workout experience across all major property types in a wide variety of geographic locations, and also has significant experience in management of REO properties.
Bill holds a BS in Accounting from Oklahoma State University.
Dennis Leote joined Old Hill in 2008 originally as an accounting associate and had since been promoted to a credit analyst for the Firm′s asset-backed investment activities. Dennis is responsible for asset-level modeling and collateral analysis for asset-backed investments. Prior to Old Hill, Dennis worked as a Vice President of Product Control and Business Applications at Pequot Capital Management, a hedge fund that managed over $7 billion in assets. He began his career at AQR Capital, a hedge fund focused on quantitative strategies, as an Accounting and Operations analyst.
Dennis earned his BBA from Pace University.
Kevin Uherek joined Old Hill Partners in 2016 as an analyst for the firm’s asset-backed investments. Kevin assists the origination, underwriting, and management of a portfolio of asset-backed investments. His responsibilities include collateral analysis, asset-backed modeling, due diligence, and risk assessment.
Kevin earned his Master of Economics from New York University, after completing his undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Rochester.
Legal and Compliance Associate
Kim Hopkins joined Old Hill in 2010. Kim has over 20 years of experience in legal administration and paralegal activities and serves in those roles for Old Hill. Prior to Old Hill, Kim served as the paralegal in a local law office specializing in real estate and corporate matters, with responsibility for all aspects of commercial and real estate closings, asset purchases and sales, among other duties.
Kim earned a degree from Sacred Heart University.
Anna Lamie joined Old Hill Partners in 2016, as an Associate responsible for managing fund accounting and coordination with fund administrators. She is also responsible for day to day Treasury operations. Prior to Old Hill, Anna was a staff accountant at Genex Turbine and DMG Information, a division of Daily Mail and General Trust.
Anna has a BA in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and is currently pursuing an MBA in Accounting from the University of Hartford.
Jack Campbell advises Old Hill on a range of airlines, railroads, automotive and transportation equipment manufacturers, and leasing companies. He brings an extensive record of financing major transportation, infrastructure, and asset finance clients. Over his career he has headed transport & infrastructure sector teams at StormHarbour Securities, HREGroup/Depfa, HSH Nordbank, and the Deutsche Post Group, and he was in the supply chain sector at Credit Suisse First Boston. Additionally, Jack spent 11 years in the equipment leasing industry at CIS Corporation as an Executive Vice President.
Jack has a B.A from Dartmouth College.
Pat Stone joined Old Hill in 2017. He is responsible for sourcing transactions, analysis, structuring and asset management for the Firm′s asset-backed investments. His background in the high yield, leveraged loan and direct lending markets dates back to 2006, where as a member of UBS’s global hedge fund of funds business he researched managers investing across fixed income markets. Most recently, Pat was a Director of Credit & Risk at Fundation Group, a fintech company backed by Garrison Investment Group, a leading middle market credit and asset based investor. Prior thereto, from 2010 to 2015, Pat originated, structured, underwrote and monitored a portfolio of asset based and enterprise value loans at Full Circle Capital Corporation, a publicly traded commercial finance company that merged into Great Elm Capital Corporation (Nasdaq: GECC) during 2016.
Pat earned a BS in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University.
Director of Marketing
Kevin Mallon joined Old Hill in 2017 as Director of Marketing. Kevin is responsible for sourcing and managing new investor relationships as well as distributing Old Hill’s investment offerings. Kevin began his career in 2006 at Tullett Prebon, an inter-dealer broker, where he covered natural gas markets. He joins Old Hill most recently from TCA Fund Management Group, a private credit and private equity investment manager, where served as Director of Marketing. Prior to TCA, Kevin worked for an alternative asset manager specializing in receivables and collateralized lending to the US legal community.
Kevin earned a BA from Columbia University, an MA from Fordham University, and an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.
